VANDEL MARCHEN

Vandel Marchen is a South African American artist and writer born in New York City, whose creative work bridges culture, identity, and storytelling. Drawing deeply from his South African roots and the dynamic energy of NYC, Vandel uses both digital and traditional mediums to craft artwork that reflects his lived experiences and the diverse communities that shaped him.

Heavily influenced by Japanese anime and manga, Vandel blends these inspirations with his own background to form a unique visual and narrative style. His work often explores themes of personal growth, resilience, and representation—offering authentic perspectives rarely highlighted in mainstream manga spaces. As a three-time published manga author with titles available in major bookstores, he has become a recognizable voice in the indie manga scene.

Beyond his own creations, Vandel is dedicated to uplifting the next generation of artists and writers. Through workshops, panels, and his growing online presence, he teaches the fundamentals of storytelling, manga creation, character development, and creative discipline. His “Manga Academy” initiatives have supported inner-city youth, helping emerging creators gain confidence and develop the tools to tell their own dream stories.

Vandel’s mission extends beyond art—he aims to build a community where diverse voices can thrive and where aspiring creators feel empowered to shape the future of manga and visual storytelling.
